2023 Advent and Christmas Appeal

Advent / Christmas Appeal 2023

“What we would like to do is change the world--make it a little simpler for people to feed, clothe, and shelter themselves as God intended them to do. And, by fighting for better conditions, by crying out unceasingly for the rights of the workers, the poor, of the destitute--the rights of the worthy and the unworthy poor, in other words--we can, to a certain extent, change the world; we can work for the oasis, the little cell of joy and peace in a harried world. We can throw our pebble in the pond and be confident that its ever widening circle will reach around the world. We repeat, there is nothing we can do but love, and, dear God, please enlarge our hearts to love each other, to love our neighbor, to love our enemy as our friend.” ~Dorothy Day

Dear friends and workers,

At the Catholic Worker House, we have always been dedicated to changing lives and making the world a better place—one step at a time. And thanks to your ongoing contributions, we’ve been able to do just that.

In the last year alone, your cumulative donations have helped us house 45 refugee families, transition 20 families into independent living, provide guardianship to eight unaccompanied minors, serve 12,480 meals, 832 loads of laundry, 750 showers, and provide wrap-around care and holistic support to hundreds of poor and homeless workers, families, and children.

More than that, your ongoing support has instilled hope and joy in the hearts of some of the folks who need it most. Consider Miguel, the farmworker who lost his legs in a tragic accident, but whose family prayed for deliverance and received the blessings they needed to survive, thanks to God and people like you.

But there is still so much more that must be done. Today, we invite you to be part of our journey as we continue to serve the poor, feed the hungry, house the homeless, and welcome the stranger to rebuild their lives in Iowa.

As we approach the end of the year, we hope you will join us in reaching our goal of $25,000 before the year's end, to help us meet the growing need in the new year.

Your donation, no matter the size, makes a tremendous difference. You can make your contribution at this link: https://iowacitycatholicworker.org/donate or mail a check or money order to the address provided below. You can also find us on Venmo @iowacitycatholicworker

Thank you for creating hope for those that need it most.

Together, we can make a difference.

With sincere gratitude,

Emily, Sinnwell, David Goodner, Maureen Vasile, Ann Houlahan, and Jane Noble-Davis
